Comic-y goodness
From the local public library – I’ve been picking up various graphic novels and collected comics over the past few months, just to see what’s interesting lately. This trip I got the first three volumes of A Distant Soil, by Colleen Doran. I’d never heard of it, but the covers and blurbs looked cool. Addicted! Trying to track down volume four now! It’s kind of fantasy-y SF with a touch of Arthurian thrown in, a bit sexy, a bit violent, and pretty cool all up. If you like your men tough and manly, this may not entirely be the series for you, but it’s a wicked story!
I also read Ghost Rider for the first time. Um, different.

Comic book sexism
I’m sure it says something about the nature of comic books, but I find it very interesting that in the August 2007 edition of Wizard (some comic book magazine I picked up by mistake a while back and just finished trawling through), there are NO females. There’s comic book characters with big boobs, but no female writers, inkers, artists, interviews, blah blah blah.
I’m sure girls READ comics. How come girls don’t WRITE comics? Or at least, how come those girls, if there ARE any, don’t get space in Wizard?
Itsa boys club after all, itsa boys club aaafter all…

Australian online comic shop
Does anyone know of one? I want to get the rest of the Buffy comics, and try to get the Laurell K Hamilton graphic novel coming out, but am sick of paying double the price for freight from Amazon. Sometimes you get lucky with postage from eBay sellers, but more often it’s not.
LJ-wisdom, help!
