According to my school friend Mandy, we finished Year 12 twenty years ago yesterday. Twenty years. That’s a long freaking time. That means I’ve been more years out of school than I was in it (not counting uni and work life!). It means that over half my life is post-schooling. Wow. I moved around a lot when I was a kid (ha, what’s changed?) and went to about nine different schools. My final four years though (the longest of anywhere) were all Miles High School, a country school – we had about 30 kids in our Year 12 class. I still keep in touch with a few of them, more than I probably could if it weren’t for Facebook. And while I do look back on high school with quite a lot of head shaking and “what were you THINKING?!”, and while it wasn’t always the most fun of places to be, I do have fond memories as well.
