Holiday goals

Well, it’s actually just “next four days” goals, as the rest of the school holidays are accounted for elsewhere. But we’ve got a lot to do. And after the holidays, I’ll do set of “before baby” goals! First things first:

1. Finish marking batch 2 – already underway and cruising. Much simpler marking than the last batch, thank goodness, and half the amount!

2. Write a bunch of book reviews. I can see six books from here that are read but not yet reviewed, and have two more on the shelf with deadlines.

3. Schedule a bunch of reviews for ASif! and WASLA Reviews. Also follow up some outstanding reviews for WASLA.

4. Start work on issue 3 of ic3 (deadline for copy is the 15th, so can begin layout/editing what I’ve got).

5. File the darn filing! Tax is with accountant, so these four baskets of filing can be FILED NOW. Good podcast listening op!

6. Social events for children. Managed one today, what else can we fit in?

7. Washing, ironing, folding – it’s ongoing, but hasn’t been properly finished (ie: no ironing done) for many weeks!

8. Tidy house for inspection on Friday (and praise the cleaner coming Thursday afternoon).

9. Pack for trips.

10. Move kids’ bedrooms around? Still trying to figure out how that’s going to work.

11. Slush reading for One Small Step.

12. Reading for other FableCroft projects not yet announced 🙂

Right, procrastination over. Keep moving!

Big day

Yesterday was a big day. It was my last day at work at Launceston Church Grammar School, where I have been employed since January this year (lucky enough to be offered the job before we moved). It was interesting, leaving another job so soon. I’ve been in workplaces shorter times (thanks to the transient nature of my husband, mainly!) but did four years at Kolbe before this, so it was a bit different. Received lovely cards from various people, and my line manager took my semi-replacement (and colleague friend) and I out to afternoon tea, officially for bit of a handover meeting (and we did talk about the job – a bit), so that was nice. And another chapter ends. Not sure when/if I’ll go back into a school library setting – it’ll be a goodly few years I reckon, while the two youngest are at home, but never say never!

Yesterday was also big in that our Rockingham house went officially on the market. This is a bit sad-making, but I keep telling myself it was too small for us anyway – four kids need more space! We got lucky with good tenants this year, and apparently the market is quite good, so fingers crossed we get some interest, either from investors or families.

Yesterday I finished my first big batch of uni marking (academia seems to be my next career step at the moment, as I can do it from home!). Have to start another (much smaller) batch today, but it was good to get the first lot done.

Yesterday in the post I received an invitation to the Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia’s 2011/2012 Outstanding Professional Service Awards ceremony, which I have been nominated for! A lovely surprise.

Yesterday I received my copy of Under My Hat (edited by the very clever Jonathan Strahan) and my supporter’s bundle for the Locus kickstarter; Master Two had his last day at daycare (officially); and I received a message from Master Nine’s teacher saying how proud she was of him for his performance at school assembly, both in the class play and as co-host. Seems a lot happened. And we keep on moving forward 🙂

Another week down

Where does the time go? Another three days finished at work – just three left! And on the inbetween days, I’m up to my neck in university marking, so super busy. Trying to stay on top of FableCroft, reviews and Aurealis Awards things too – what is this word people say, “boredom”? I know it not! And today there was new Doctor Who – woo! I’m only a newbie fangirl, but I loves it and even though today is Fathers’ Day and we actually have husband home to celebrate, I still stole 50 minutes to watch it on ABC iView this morning (THANK YOU ABC AUSTRALIA!) after pancakes and presents.

Worked out this week that this will be the first year husband is home for everyone’s birthday, Fathers’ Day, Christmas, wedding anniversary, New Year, the works. He sometimes gets a couple of them on his weeks off, but this year, ALL! Amazing.

We decided to put our WA house on the market – we have fabulous tenants, but thought we’d take advantage of the reasonable sales figures in the area and try again. Far better than this time last year apparently, so fingers crossed.

Master Nine had his last soccer game for the season yesterday, and presentations today. Chuffed that they all got a trophy and certificate, plus a choccy and not only a team photo but an individual one as well. A friendly club. We stopped at Maccas for lunch after, and Master Two was delighted to see a friend from daycare there to play with. No sooner did she leave than his mate Nate turned up with his mum and dad, which was great as husband hadn’t met them and we’ve been seeing quite a lot of them. Nate’s four, but he and M2 get along really well!

Anyway, need to take advantage of the fact husband and toddler are asleep and big kids engrossed in computer things, and get back to the marking. And not be distracted by the dissection of the new DW ep!
