Don’t tell girliejones , but I’ve just spent about eight hours straight reading the finale of Brett weeks’ brilliant Night Angel trilogy and I’m utterly blown away. I read the last hour of it in a public place, and that’s the only thing that kept the tears from streaming down my face. As it was I kept getting goosebumps all over every few pages as crisis after crisis in the action sprang from the pages.
Over three massive (over 600 pages each, this one closer to 700) novels, Weeks has drawn detailed characters, gripping plots and action packed story, somehow managing to maintain the pace while fleshing out the ever more inticate story. Not one piece of this trilogy left me unsatisfied. The concerns about the huge cast I had in the first book proved unfounded, with every character added being both fascinating and necessary to the grand tapestry that is the series.
I could not put these books down, and now that they are finished, I wish I had time to reread them again immediately. This is what Magician was 20 years ago. Strong, believable world building, characters you grow to love and understand, and an excellent story to pull it all together. If you gave been searching for something to fill the hole left by Feist, Jordan and Martin at their peak, you MUST read these books. But don’t pick the first one up unless you’ve got a weekend to spare – it’s absolutely compulsive reading.
